Ashantigold to revive ailing football academy

The Miners hope to restore their once vibrant academy which produced the likes of John Mensah, Mubarak Wakaso among others
AshantiGold are on the verge of reviving their football academy which has been in the dark since 2004.

The Miners’ management met on Wednesday and tasked the chief executive officer of the club Kudjoe Fianoo to be at the forefront to help restore the academy, which was one of the best in the country years ago.

Formed in 1996 as the Sam Okyere Soccer Academy, the Ashanti Gold Football Academy which produced the likes of John Mensah, Opoku Agyemang, Mubarak Wakaso, Daniel Opare and others has lost its touch since Ajax Amsterdam withdrew from it.

According to the CEO, reviving the academy would help the club to get quality and well groomed players who can bring the glory days back to the front of the Miners.

Also discussed at the meeting was whether to name acting coach Yaw Acheampong as the substantive one or otherwise.
