Injury rules Michael Essien out of Real Madrid's clash with Man City in the UCL

The 29-year-old has failed to make his first return to England since he left Chelsea for a loan stint at Real Madrid this season due to injury

Michael Essien has for the second time in a row missed out of a call-up in the Real Madrid team as he continues to battle an injury.

The 29-year-old was not named in Jose Mourinho's 20-man squad for the Uefa champions league match against Manchester City at the Etihad stadium on Wednesday.

The on-loan Chelsea midfielder who is in the treatment room also missed Real Madrid's 5-1 mauling of Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish La Liga over the weekend.

The Bison's career lately has been blighted with injuries and he will be hoping to stay fit for most part of the season after Madrid offered him the chance to kick the ball again after he was frozen out at Chelsea.

Michael Essien’s first match for Los Blancos was the reverse leg against the English champions in match day one in Madrid.

Real Madrid lie second in the group behind Borussia Dortmund and a win against City will give them a place in the next round even before the final games.
