Kwesi Appiah to consider PSV’s Memphis Depay for future Ghana assignment
The 18-year-old striker has been in the plans of the Black Stars coach and could be a target after the 2013 Afcon in South Africa
Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah would consider PSV Eindhoven's Memphis Depay for future friendly games in an effort to woo him to switch allegiance to his fatherland, Goal.com Ghana can exclusively confirm. The 18-year-old forward is likely to be given a call-up in an unofficial game before the 2014 Brazil World Cup qualifiers resume again as the Black Stars boss seeks to get the needed quality materials to qualify Ghana for its third consecutive global showpiece.
“Based on the FIFA rule, Appiah can get Depay for an unofficial game for the Black Stars before the nation applies to Fifa for his nationality switch if he decides to commit his future to Ghana,” a close source to the coach hinted Goal.com Ghana.
“He is very much in the plans of coach Kwesi Appiah and he will certainly be considered after the African Cup of Nations.”
Depay has been in fantastic form for the 18-time Dutch champions since being promoted into the first team by manager Philip Cocu this season.
He currently leads the attack of the Dutch national Under-20 after featuring for the U17 side.
