The midfielder has pledged to help the Fabulous club to win the domestic top flight, despite their poor start in the new seasonKumasi Asante Kotoko winger Richard Mpong has welcomed the challenge that comes with playing for the Porcupine Warriors.
The former Medeama SC player admits there is a huge pressure playing for the Red Army but he is set to stand up to the challenge that comes with it.
“I must admit that there is much pressure on us because playing for such a big club and starting the new season with two draws is not what we expected as players,” he said.
Mpong who joined the Kumasi-based club after a protracted transfer saga only played 76 minutes for the Porcupine Warriors in their first game against Amidaus before coming on as a substitute in Kotoko’s 2-2 draw against Ashgold at Len Clay on Sunday.
The 22-year-old has promised the fans the team will deliver in subsequent games and defend their league title.
“We are now under pressure to deliver for the fans but I’m sure we will be able to put aside the pressure and do well in the remaining matches. We are 100 percent sure we will defend the league trophy at the end of the 2012-13 season,” he said.
