Ghana's Black Maidens beat Japan 1-0 to qualify to the semi-finals of Fifa under 17 women's world cup

Ghana’s Under-17 women’s team, the Black Maidens, produced another great display as they defeated highly rated, Japan 1-0 to make it into the semi-finals of the Fifa U17 women’s World Cup in Azerbaijan on Friday.

Sherifatu Sumaila scored the only goal of the match in the 53rd minute to end the Asian’s campaign.

This is the first time a Ghanaian female side have made it to the second round of a World Cup competition and the Black Maidens did that in style after going pass the quarter-finals stage.

Ghana, Africa’s only representative after the exit of Gambia and Nigeria have now set up a semi-finals meeting with France on Tuesday.
