The coach of the Flames believes his charges are capable of defeating the four-time African champions after beating Zambia two months agoThe head coach of the Flames of Malawi Kinnah Phiri has declared his team is in Accra to beat Ghana in Saturday’s 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
The 58-year-old said he enjoys the underdog’s tag placed on his team ahead of the match. The last meeting between the two sides ended goalless in a friendly match in January 2010 in Swaziland.
The Black Stars are responsible for Malawi’s worst ever defeat after posting a 12-0 victory over the Flames in 1962. The Malawians recently lost 1-0 to Liberia in a preparatory game.
“Ghana are not invincible, any team can compete with Ghana depending on their preparation that is why Ghana has not won a trophy in a long while,” Phiri told Goal.com Ghana.
“I believe in my young team because these boys beat African champions, Zambia 1-0 in July, a team Ghana have failed to beat in two attempts this year,” the former Free States Stars coach added.
The match kicks off at 15:30 GMT at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.
