The senior national team will use the 2013 Afcon qualifier against the Flames to honour the former president, who died on July 24
The Black Stars will wear black armbands in Saturday’s 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Malawi as a way of honoring Ghana’s late president John Evans Atta Mills. The Confederation of Africa Football (Caf) has approved the request of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to eulogize President Mills, whose high interest in sports was unquestionable.
This is the first time the Black Stars are playing on home soil since President Mills died on July 24.
“We thank Caf for approving the GFA’s request to honour President Mills during Saturday's match against Malawi,” Gfa spokesman Ibrahim Sannie told ghanafa.org.
President Mills was once the chairman of the Black Stars management committee and a board member of Hearts of Oak.
