Fenerbahce have expressed interest in Ghana midfielder Michael Essien, but will make a move pending the outcome of Wednesday's Champions League return leg game against Spartak Moscow.

According to Turkishfootball.com, the Yellow Canaries will invest in a central midfielder should they qualify for the Champions League group stages.

The Turkish giants have lost Emre Belozoglu who recently signed for Atletico Madrid and are looking forward to beef up their midfield.

The Yellow-Navy Blues believe the 29-year-old Ghana international is the suitable candidate for the job.

Essien joined the Blues for €38 million from Lyon in 2005 and has gone onto play 247 games for the Stamford Bridge side.

His contract runs until 2015.
