The Phobian coach will be given the funds to build his team and buy players of his choice as the Accra giants reposition themselves to win the domestic top flightHearts of Oak coach C.K. Akunnor has been handed a GhC 5 million (US$2.5 million) transfer purse to build his team for the upcoming Ghana Premier League season.
The former Ghana international joined the Phobians mid-way through last season after Serbian coach Nebojsa Vucicevic was sacked after a poor run of results and led the Accra giants to a third place finish in the league last term.
They were two points behind second placed Ashgold but a staggering 16 behind league winners and perennial rivals Asante Kotoko. It is this gap that the ex-Black Stars player will be seeking to bridge.
This huge transfer kitty seems to be a statement of intent from the former Africa champions with regards to their believe in the former New Edubiase coach as well as their ambition to win the league and get back to their glory days.
Akunnor will be looking to rebuild the squad in order to facilitate this push and will be hoping to have his team ready for the start of the new season. His record of just four wins in 10 league matches for the Phobians though will mean that he may be under a lot of pressure from fans at the start of the season.
