John Mensah returns for Ghana ahead of China friendly

The captain is likely to receive a call-up from Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah after gaining full fitness ahead of Wednesday’s game against the Dragons
Medical doctors have cleared Ghana captain John Mensah ahead of an international friendly against China on Wednesday.

The former Rennes defender has recuperated from an injury he sustained during the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea early this year.

“He’s fit to play now,” a source within Mensah’s camp told Ghana. “He’s likely to release a statement to that effect sometime this week.”

The 29-year-old’s return is a major boost for the Black Stars ahead of their 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Malawi in September.

Coach Kwesi Appiah is likely to give him a call-up for the test fixture against the Dragons.
Mensah has terminated his contract with French Ligue 1 outfit Olympique Lyon and has been linked with several clubs including Turkish duo Fenerbahce and Bursaspor among others from United Arabs Emirates.
