The former AshantiGold midfielder is delighted to have joined the Spanish top flight side after his former team Villarreal went into relegationGhana international Mubarak Wakaso has said he will work hard to justify his move to Spanish side Espanyol. The 21-year-old joined the Periquitos on Wednesday from Villarreal in a four-year deal.
The former Elche midfielder will now have another opportunity to play in the Spanish top flight after The Yellow Submarine were relegated to the Spanish Segunda last season.
“I am happy to get another chance to play in the La Liga,” the midfielder told Accra-based Joy FM. “Espanyol coach, Mauricio Pochettino spoke to me personally on phone for about an hour and I will not disappoint him.”
He joins his fellow African from Nigeria Kalu Uche in the Magic set up.
The Barcelona-based cub finished 14th in the 2011-2012 Spanish La Liga season.
Wakaso was presented as a player of Espanyol on Thursday where he said: "Tonight, I can sleep. I want to thank you for welcoming me.
“I have a mind to fight and help the team to fight for the Champions League or Europa. I will help in any way we can.”
