Garde: We were lucky with 4-0 Bordeaux win
The 46-year-old coach says his side were fortunate to come away with a victory on Sunday and believes the younger members of the squad contributed to the scoreline
Lyon boss Remi Garde has said his team were "extremely lucky" to emerge from Sunday's clash with Bordeaux as 4-0 winners.Clement Grenier's first-half strike had proved the difference between the team's for over an hour before a late flurry of Lyon goals added gloss to the scoreline.
But despite admitting to luck, Garde believes his team were deserving of the three points.
"I'll be a killjoy on this one but I have to admit that we were extremely lucky," he told reporters.
"We managed to be in the lead at the break without being really dangerous. That was our game plan today. We grabbed every opportunity we had.
"We have been very unlucky lately and today it fell a bit more in our favour. But we deserve the win with four goals being a little bit flattering in the end."
The 46-year-old also lauded the impact of his younger players in Sunday's victory but reiterated the importance of experience.
He added: "I don't know what our average age was at the end of the game, but it's true that those youngsters bring a lot to the team. But I will never stop saying that I also need experienced players."
The victory has cut the gap between Lyon and league-leaders Paris Saint-Germain to just three points following Carlo Ancelotti's side going down 3-2 to FC Sochaux at the weekend.
Lyon welcome Tottenham to the Stade de Gerland on Thursday evening for their second-leg Europa League clash, with the French giants currently trailing 2-1.
