Al Ain
3-2 Al Shabab
The Ghana captain showed a lot of character in mid-week after playing for Al Ain in the UAE pro-league two days after the death of his mother. Many felt he will excuse himself but the former Sunderland striker went ahead to lead the attack and finished the game with a double in Al Ain’s 3-2 victory over Al Shabab. The brace took his tally to 14 goals in seven matches and also helped the defending champions to maintain their top spot.
Congratulations to Gyan, Goal.com's 11th Ghana Player of the Week winner!

Honourable Mention
Kwadwo Asamoah – Juventus

The 23-year-old scored one of his best goals in Juventus’ 6-1 win at Pescara on Saturday. He recorded the third goal through a sublime overhead kick in the 30th minute. His pace, aggression and splitting passes gave the Pescara defense a lot of problems.

Andre Ayew – Marseille

In recent weeks, he and his younger brother, Jordan Ayew have continuously rescued Olympic Marseille. Over the weekend, Andre scored one of the goals for the 1993 Uefa Champions League winners in their 2-2 draw with Nice to help them pile more pressure on leaders, PSG. Andre scored the first goal in the 40th minute.
Michael Essien - Real Madrid

The Bison’s performances will make things difficult for German midfielder, Samir Khedira when he returns from injury. Essien has brought a lot to the Real Madrid midfield after providing a good shield to the defenders. After an impressive performance when he came on  as a substitute in Los Blancos’ 2-2 draw with Borussia Dortmund, the 29-year-old on Sunday started in Real Madrid’s 2-1 success at Levante and again put up a superb performance in the defensive midfield role.

Each week our team of writers will put forward a selected candidate, as chosen by Goal.com Ghana, who deserves recognition for achieving something special that matchday.

You can also help us choose a worthy recipient of the weekly accolade by leaving your nominations and comments. Your suggestions will be taken into consideration.

It won't necessarily be the best player in the country - at least not usually - but whoever we crown will have accomplished something amazing. It might be for a particularly awesome performance or for something praiseworthy off the pitch - either way, the person in question deserves special attention...
