Fiorentina interested in Ekdal
The Serie A outfit are interested in the Cagliari player as well as Celta Vigo striker Iago Aspas as they look to build a squad capable of qualifying for the Champions League
EXCLUSIVEby Elia Raimondo
Fiorentina are looking to bring in a new midfielder to the Stadio Artemio Franchi during the January transfer window, with Cagliari's Albin Ekdal top of Vincenzo Montella's shopping list.
Despite rumours that Frank Lampard, who is out of contract with Chelsea in July, could be subject of a bid from the Viola, it seems that the club is looking at more affordable options.
Montella and owners Diego and Andrea Della Valle have become interested in Ekdal, who has impressed since moving to Cagliari in 2011, and could be available for €6 million. The 23-year-old would be seen as providing competition for Alberto Aquilani in the middle of the pitch.
Montella is also eager to add a striker to his squad as he looks to guide the team to a Champions League spot, and Celta Vigo forward Iago Aspas is thought to be his main target.
The 25-year-old scored 23 times in the Segunda Division last season to help Os Celestes secure promotion to La Liga, and has found the net a further eight times in 19 league appearances this term.
