Juventus not looking for excuses, says Marotta
The Bianconeri director feels that the Scudetto holders were simply not good enough, and stressed the referee was not to blame for the loss
Giuseppe Marotta has refused to look for excuses in the wake of Juventus' 1-0 Serie A loss to AC Milan at San Siro on Sunday evening. The Bianconeri conceded a dubious penalty on the half-hour mark which effectively cost them the game, but Marotta has insisted their defeat was not down to the referee because of tiredness following their Champions League win over Chelsea.
"Without the penalty it would have been a scoreless draw. These things even themselves out over the course of the season, though," Marotta was quoted as saying on the official Juventus website.
"Aside from that, it wasn’t the usual Juventus performance and therefore we won’t make any excuses.
"We need to get used to competing in a greater number of competitions so tiredness shouldn’t be an excuse. We had four days to recover. The fact remains that we didn’t approach the game in our usual manner."
Despite their loss, Juventus remain first in the Serie A table with 32 points from 14 games.
