The former Borussia Monchengladbach star scored a brilliant hat-trick at Signal Iduna Park, but is adamant that his young colleague, who provided two assists, also deserves credit for the victory.
"It's an honour to play alongside Gotze. You could see in both his assists what he is all about, and he is so young still," the 23-year-old told Sky Germany.
"I'm more delighted that we won the game [than my hat-trick]. Frankfurt are a very strong side."
Following the dismissal of Julian Schieber, Frankfurt had the lion's share of the ball, but coach Jurgen Klopp was delighted with their showing nonetheless, despite his unhappiness with the striker's red card.
"To deliver such an outstanding performance is remarkable after the tough match against Shakhtar Doentsk," he commented.
"I don't care about possession, as long as there are now bonus points for it. We trained and obviously made good use of this time. Altogether it was a very strong performance.
"[The red card] felt unfair."
Sporting director Michael Zorc was also unhappy with the decision to dismiss the former Stuttgart striker, having seen Marcel Schmelzer and Robert Lewandowski receive dubious red cards.
"A referee interfered with our game yet again, which didn't happen for the first time. It was a normal challenge, it wasn't even a foul let alone a yellow card. It was clearly the referee's mistake."
