Dinamo Zagreb's Beqiraj eager to avoid record-equalling Champions League goal drought
The 24-year-old is desperate for his side to end their barren run in Europe this season, as he looks to grab both the first goal and first points in the Champions League
Fatos Beqiraj believes that Dinamo Zagreb will earn their first points of the current Champions League campaign against Dynamo Kiev whilst hoping to avoid being only the third club to go a campaign without scoring.Despite both sides going into the game with nothing to play for - with Zagreb already being knocked out of Europe and the Ukranians securing their spot in the Europa League - the hosts would not only match Anderlecht's unenviable record of 12 successive losses if they are beaten, but also equal Deportivo La Coruna and Maccabi Haifa's record of not scoring should they fail to find the target again.
This is something which Beqiraj is determined not to let happen.
"The atmosphere in the team is very good and we cannot wait for the game," he told the club's official website.
"It's time to win the first points and I hope that we will succeed. Everyone who plays will give their best. It will be hard, but if we all give 100 per cent then we will get the result."
Dynamo Kiev midfielder Niko Kranjcar started his professional career at Tuesday night's opponents and although he misses out due to injury, the Croatia international is eagerly anticipating the game.
He added: "I just hope that it will be a good match which will be fun for the football players and fans," he told the club's official website.
The game is scheduled for December 4, 2012 19:45 UTC at Stadion Maksimir, Zagreb.
