Southend sign Lund from Stoke on one-month loan

The League Two outfit have confirmed they have captured the 22-year-old midfielder on a one-month deal, and he could make his debut against Northampton Town on Saturday

Stoke midfielder Matthew Lund has joined Southend on a one-month loan deal, the League Two club have confirmed.

The midfielder, who signed from Crewe Alexandra in 2009, has yet to make a first team appearance for the Potters, and was loaned out for a second time to Bristol Rovers earlier this season, scoring two goals in 20 appearances.

Lund, who joined Stoke in 2009, has signed for the Essex club until March 16 and joins as Paul Sturrock’s men sit ninth in the table, just two points outside the play-off places.

The 22-year-old, who has also had previous loan spells at Huddersfield Town and Oldham Athletic, has also represented Northern Ireland at Under-21 level.

“With the injury troubles that we have it was important we brought someone in and I'm pleased to have got Matthew,” Sturrock told reporters.

“He's already played in League Two this season, including against us, and I'm sure that will help him settle in here.”

“I didn’t want to put Matty in the 25-man squad because we’re looking to find him a club,” Stoke boss Tony Pulis told the Potters' official website.

“He’s a great lad here and deserves to play.”
Lund is available to play in Southend's clash with Northampton at Roots Hall on Saturday, as well as their Football League Trophy Southern final showdown with Leyton Orient on Wednesday.
