Tottenham keeper Lloris confident of top-four finish but wary of tough fixture list
With games against six of the current top nine-placed sides lined up over the next two months, the summer signing has urged focus after last season's collapse from third spot
Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is confident the club can achieve a top-four finish in the Premier League season, but notes the real test of their credentials is yet to come.
Spurs have remained contenders for the spot throughout the campaign, jostling for position with Everton, Chelsea and Arsenal.
And Lloris is adamant the squad has enough quality to see the job through, but is aware of last year’s collapse as Arsenal overturned a 10-point deficit to pip Spurs to third spot.
"The club has been trying to establish itself in the top four for some years now," he told The Sun. "For the minute, the season has been promising, but the hardest part is yet to come.
"Today, there’s United, City and Chelsea who are a cut above and who have more financial means. But Tottenham are just behind.”
Tottenham have a potentially problematic run of Premier League fixtures over the coming two months as they play six of the current top nine-placed sides before the end of April, and Lloris is hoping to build up a head of steam to keep their fourth-spot rivals at bay.
"There are still a number of key matches to be played and we’ll have to be ready for that," Lloris said.
"For the moment, we’re well-placed, though we’re not beyond a possible charge by Arsenal."
