Everton boss Moyes expecting 'really tough game' against Manchester United
Despite taking four points from their last two clashes against the league leaders, the Scot has urged his squad to forget their past achievements heading into the Sunday's tie
Everton manager David Moyes has insisted the club’s recent positive results against Manchester United count for nothing heading into the Sunday clash at Old Trafford.
The Toffees have taken four points from their last two meetings with the Red Devils - an entertaining comeback 4-4 draw last season before a hard-fought 1-0 win at Goodison Park on the opening weekend of the 2012-13 campaign.
However, Moyes has urged his squad to forget their past achievements heading into the weekend tie.
"I don’t know if you can look at our recent results against them because over the years Manchester United have taken an awful lot of points off us," Moyes told the club’s official website.
"Obviously the game this year we had a good victory and we had a hard draw there last year, but if you look over time they have taken far more points off us than we have off them.
"It’s a real tough game for us. I don’t think anybody would think it is anything less than that."
Coming four days after a round of international friendlies, 12 of Everton’s squad had priorities elsewhere during midweek and Moyes has admitted that preparation for the United clash has been difficult.
"It’s difficult but it’s the same for Manchester United," Moyes added.
"They have a club which is full of international players, so they will have the same problems that we have. It’s just part and parcel of having a midweek game."
