Parker: Tottenham can win the FA Cup this year
The 32-year-old central midfielder thinks his side can reach Wembley and bring silverware back to White Hart Lane this season, despite the club's main goal being a top-four finish
Scott Parker believes Tottenham can go all the way and win the FA Cup this season despite the club's main objective being a top-four finish in the Premier League to earn Champions League football next season. The 32-year-old says winning the historic trophy is "massively important" to him ahead of his side's fourth-round trip to Leeds United on Sunday afternoon, especially given the heartbreak of losing in the semi-final stage to Chelsea last season.
Now the England midfielder is ready to drive Andre Villas-Boas' team on to a dream date in a Wembley final.
"It’s quite some time since Spurs won [the FA Cup]," Parker told The Sun.
"Last year was close and hopefully if you get good draws, you can go some way. A club like ours, at our sort of level, we can definitely win the Cup this year.
"The FA Cup is massively important to me. As a club our objective is top four but, as a kid, the Cup is what you remember.
"I read that the final is going back to the last game of the season, which is what you remember as a kid - Wembley and stuff - for me and a lot of the lads it's vitally important."
Parker has not had much success in cup competitions during his career, and is desperate to wipe out memories of that 5-1 FA Cup semi-final drubbing last season by Chelsea.
"We got to the semis of the FA Cup last year but, other than that, I haven’t had a lot of joy," he continued. "It was very disappointing in the semi-final when we were beaten quite heavily by Chelsea.
"Last year was the closest I've come. There's not a day goes by when I don't think, 'If I could get a medal, or win something big'. And certainly the FA Cup is something big.
"I experienced a Carling Cup final at Chelsea at the Millennium [Stadium in 2005 when the Blues beat Liverpool 3-2] but wasn't involved. When you're not playing, you never feel properly involved."
Parker has only played in seven Premier League games this season after being out of contention with an Achilles problem for the opening of the campaign, but is likely to play more regularly with Sandro out for the rest of the season.
