Villas-Boas rules out January spending spree at Tottenham
The 35-year-old has insisted that he and chairman Daniel Levy are "comfortable" with the current squad, while revealing reserve keepers Carlo Cudicini and Gomes could leave
Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has dismissed claims the club are set for a spending spree in the January transfer window.
Spurs have been linked with a number of players ahead of the New Year, with Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen, Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente and summer targets Joao Moutinho and Willian all thought to be interesting the Portuguese.
However, Villas-Boas has indicated that he is unlikely to make any moves in during the upcoming window, especially early in the month, stating the club are "comfortable" with their current squad.
"You won't see Tottenham doing anything in the beginning of January, if we do anything," he told reporters.
"Buying players early in the window makes a difference to the preparation in pre-season but, during the season, it doesn't have the same effect. I think we are comfortable with how things are."
The summer arrival of goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, coupled with Brad Friedel's continuing form, means fellow shot-stoppers Carlo Cudicini and Heurelho Gomes have seen little action at White Hart Lane this season.
Villas-Boas revealed that they are open to offers for the pair, but once again squashed talk of spending big and instead stated that players returning from injury will give the squad an "extra edge".
"With Gomes and Cudicini we will listen to proposals," Villas-Boas added.
"[Chairman Daniel Levy and I] spoke about the January situation and the eventuality that we could look to strengthen the squad. What came out of those conversations was that our [intention] is not to do a lot in January.
"We feel comfortable at the moment. Our squad will become big, even in terms of numbers, with the return of injured players. I believe that they will give us an extra edge.
"I am not ruling out any situation in the market, but at the moment it looks unlikely."
