Pearce has no worries over England future

The Under-21 manager's contract with the Football Association is set to expire next summer, but the 50-year-old has insisted he still expects to renew his deal

England Under-21 boss Stuart Pearce says he has no concerns about his long-term future with the Football Association despite his contract expiring next summer.

Pearce has been in charge of the Young Lions since 2007 and has also had spells as caretaker manager of the senior team and coach of Team GB during the London Olympic Games.

During Fabio Capello's time as national team boss, Pearce doubled up as Under-21 manager and a senior team coach but he has not reprised the latter role since Roy Hodgson's appointment.

However, despite rumours that the snub has come about because the FA may not renew his contract, Pearce insists he does not have any fears over his future in the national team set-up.

"I don't think there is any real issue in respect to my future," the 50-year-old told Sky Sports.

"I've been with the FA for five and a half years and every time my contract is up for renewal, I renew it when it runs out, basically.

“That's happened on the last two occasions and I don't see that changing in any way, shape or form this time around either. Whatever I do won't be influenced before next summer anyway.

"I can't see that being the case."

Pearce, who won 78 caps for England as a player, led the Under-21s to the semi-finals of the Uefa Under-21 European Championships in 2007 and the final in 2009.

However, they failed to get out of the group stages in the 2011 edition of the competition.
