Tottenham midfielder Scott Parker is set to miss the beginning of the Premier League season after surgery on a persistent achilles injury.
The midfielder who is set to undergo surgery to correct a persistent achilles problem which hampered the 31-year-old during the latter stages of last season and during Euro 2012.
Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas has confirmed the news, with Parker missing their current pre-season tour of America to have the operation.
Villas-Boas told reporters: "There might be a small tear on his achilles – we are at the moment evaluating the situation regarding a possible operation that can take four to six weeks normally to heal."
The injury would see him miss the start of the domestic season and England's friendly against Italy in Switzerland on August 15. The former West Ham player could also be ruled out of the first two World Cup qualifiers, away to Moldova and at home to Ukraine, on September 7 and 11 respectively.
