Ghana U20 4-1 USA U20: Americans out, Ghana unsure

The Black Satellites now face an anxious wait as they seek to pick one of the four slots for the best third placed teams

Ghana beat USA 4-1 in the final group A match at the Fifa U-20 World Cup in Turkey on Thursday.

Both teams needed the win badly to stand any chance of qualifying to the quarter-finals stage of the competition.

But the Black Satellites who were beaten by France and Spain in their two previous matches carried the day with a mammoth victory.

Goals from Frank Acheampong, Ebenezer Assifuah(2) and Kennedy Ashia gave the 2009 champions their first victory at the tournament.

Shane O'Neil pulled one back for The Yanks in the 69 minute after Ghana’s first two goals but that did not deter the West Africans from completing their demolishing mission.

Ghana have now moved to the third position with three points while USA finished fourth with a point which was earned in their 1-1 draw with France.

As it stands now, Spain and France have qualified to the quarter finals with the former winning all three matches in the group.

Ghana must now wait for the final matches in the other groups in order to know whether they will seal one of the four places available to the best third placed teams.
