Cameroon to name new coach this week

The successor of Jean-Paul Akono at the helm of the Indomitable Lions will likely be unveiled this week upon the return of officials from Europe

Officials from the Cameroon Football Federation are currently in Europe in search of a new coach for the national team and are being expected back home this week with the name of the successful candidate.

More than 100 coaches, local and expatriates, applied for the job. A number of former Cameroon internationals, including Roger Milla, are canvassing for the recruitment of a local coach, or the confirmation of standing coach Jean-Paul Akono.

The FA rejected Akono’s list of players for World Cup qualifying against Togo last week.

Akono himself is doubtful to lead the team to the game after he suffered a malaise on Saturday in Yaounde and has been placed under treatment.

However, Ferdinand Ngo, a member of the team’s medical staff, said on Monday that Akono’s condition was not as grave as the media portrayed it.
