Bucs midfielder Onyekachi Okonkwo believes that they are in for a tough challenge, as Pirates will travel to DRC for the second leg of the Caf Champions League Last 16

Orlando Pirates hard-tackling midfielder Onyekachi Okonkwo was happy with his team’s performance following their impressive 3-1 win over TP Mazembe in the last 16 of the Caf Champions League on Saturday night.

The Nigerian international opened the scoring with a beautiful curler two minutes into the game and never put his foot wrong the entire 90 minutes, but he believes winning against Mazembe was important.

“I am happy with the performance of the team and myself. It was really important to win the game against TP Mazembe,” said Okonkwo.

Having won the Caf Champions League trophy with Enyimba in the early days of his career, Okonkwo understands the difficulty of playing away from home especially against the DRC side that won the very same tournament in 2010.

“I know it is going to be hard over there (in DRC) and that is why we worked so hard to score a couple of goals here at home,” added Okonkwo.

Pirates will need a draw against TP Mazembe in the return leg to ensure their place in the group stages of the Caf Champions League while the DRC club is faced with the possibility of playing in the Caf Confederation Cup should they lose this tie.
