The Atlas Lions will be doing without the services of some familiar faces at the forthcoming showpiece in South Africa including the Arsenal and QPR strikers
Morocco coach Rachid Taoussi on Wednesday announced a list of 24 players to prepare for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, surprisingly dropping his captain Houssine Kharja of Qatari side Al-Arabi, who has been a regular with the side since 2003.
As widely expected, Arsenal forward Marouane Chamakh and Adel Taarabt of Queen Park Rangers were not selected following their poor showing in the English Premier League this season. French-born Adrien Regattin of Ligue 1 club Toulouse was also left out.
One more player will be dropped by the end of their preparations for the tournament. The delegation will leave for South Africa on January 2, according to the Royal Moroccan Football Federation.
Morocco are in Group A and will open their tournament against Angola on January 19 at the Soccer City stadium in Johannesburg, before subsequently facing the other two members of the group, debutants Cape Verde and hosts South Africa.
