The 48-year-old’s dismissal comes five days after a humiliating 2-0 defeat against underdogs Cape Verde in the 2013 Afcon qualifications

The French-born coach of the Indomitable Lions Denis Lavagne has been sacked by the Cameroon Minister of Sports Adoum Garoua.

The 48-year-old’s dismissal comes five days after a humiliating 2-0 defeat against underdogs Cape Verde in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

Garoua, who made the announcement through a radio broadcast, said the Frenchman has been replaced by Jean Paul Akono, former Cameroon international and gold medalist at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Lavagne's assistant Martin Ndtoungou Mpile remains at post.
