El Hadj Diouf agrees on terms with Saudi club Al-Taawon
The former Senegal captain is in advanced talks with the Saudi side following the relegation of his current club Doncaster Rovers from The Championship
El Hadj Diouf is on the verge of sealing a deal with Buraidah-based club Al-Taawon FC in the Saudi Professional League, a source close to the negotiations told Senegal Press Agency APS on Wednesday.
The club did not do well in the league last season, and they are hoping that the controversial striker will be able to change their fortunes during the next campaign.
“An agreement has been reached between El Hadj Diouf and president of the Saudi club Al-Taawon FC. What is left is administrative issue to be sorted out in the coming days,” the source was quoted as saying by APS.
“The two parties met recently in Dubai (UAE) to discuss. They agreed on everything. Diouf has pledged to help the president improve the club’s form,” it added.
The 31-year-old two-time African footballer of the year (2001, 2002) joined Doncaster from Blackburn in 2011 but decided to leave after the Rovers were relegated from The Championship in April.
Al-Taawon finished 12thamong 14 clubs in the Saudi Professional League last season.
