Nyasha Mushekwi is expected to fly to Belgium on Wednesday for a medical with an unnamed Jupiler Pro League side
Zimbabwe international Mushekwi has been a long time target of German clubs but it is the Belgians who have emerged as frontrunners for his signature.
The 25-year-old’s agent Ralph Nkomo told Goal that Mushekwi would start training with the club on Monday next week before undergoing medicals on Wednesday and Thursday.
“I have been meeting with this squad for the past month and from our discussions they are really keen on him. Training with them does not mean he would be on trial, because they already know about him,” Nkomo told Goal.
“If he passes the medical, of which we are certain he will do, he will remain in Belgium as the club comes down to South Africa to negotiate with Sundowns for a transfer fee. The club has been to South Africa to watch him play and they are impressed with what they saw. Nyasha would
become the biggest signing of this club if they agree with Sundowns.”
Mushekwi was once on the radar of German Bundesliga side SC Freiburg as well as relegated Greuther Fürth. English clubs Fulham and West Ham have previously registered their interest in him too.
His contract with Sundowns, who he joined three seasons ago, expired last month but he was still tied to them courtesy of a one-year extension clause in the deal.
