Romero: Argentina want revenge against Uruguay
The Sampdoria shot stopper is desperate to bag the full three points as he feels the Albiceleste should always be aiming for victory
Argentina goalkeeper Sergio Romero is determined to make amends for his side's 2011 Copa America loss against Uruguay in Saturday's upcoming 2014 World Cup qualifier between the two teams. The Albiceleste were eliminated in the quarter-finals after penalties at last year's tournament as the eventual winners proved to be too strong, and Romero is desperate to set the record straight at the weekend.
"Is this a revenge match for us? Of course! However, that defeat is a thorn in our side that will always be there," Romero told Fifa.com.
"It’s in the past now and it was very painful, but this is a World Cup qualifier and it’s something very different. We’re relaxed because we’ve had some very good results and you can feel that. There’s a sense of calm and confidence as soon as we step on to the pitch.
"Uruguay have a great team. You can see why they had a fantastic World Cup and won the Copa America, but I don’t think the differences are that big between South American sides now. We’re Argentina and we have to show that and win every game."
Argentina currently sit first in the Conmebol qualification section with 14 points from 7 games.
