Jack Hackworth's side stunned LA Galaxy in midweek and Willie Duncan is backing them to follow up with a home win over Paul Mariner's rock bottom outfit on SundayThere is a bottom-of-the-table clash in the Major League Soccer Eastern Section on Sunday night when second bottom Philadelphia Union play host to basement boys Toronto at PPL Park.
Despite their lowly league position, Union will go into Friday's clash with a degree of confidence having lost just two of their last seven matches in all competitions and they are priced up at 10/11 (1.91) with William Hill to continue their decent run of form with a home victory over struggling TFC.
The Canadians, managed by former Plymouth Argyle boss Paul Mariner, will cross the border hoping to reduce the deficit at the bottom to just one point. They can be backed at 3/1 (4.0) with William Hill to pick up a vital victory over Jack Hackworth’s side. The same firm make the draw a 21/10 (3.10) chance.
Philadelphia showed glimpses that they may be ready to turn their fortunes around with an impressive 2-1 win away at LA Galaxy in midweek, and they have hammered an impressive nine goals in their last two home games with 4-0 and 5-2 victories over Sporting KC and Harrisburg City Islanders respectively.
Despite sitting rock bottom of the MLS, Toronto are unbeaten in their last five matches but the fact that they have managed to convert only one of those five games into a victory suggests that the Reds may be short of confidence.
Any lack of conviction will be seized upon by Union and they can be backed at 15/8 (2.88) with William Hill to lead at half-time and full-time.
However, it should be noted with caution that Philadelphia have often taken their time to get started this term and, in fact, two thirds of their goals have come after the break.
Thus, William Hill’s juicy 4/1 (5.0) quote for the match to be level at half time with Union coming out on top in the second half carries considerable appeal.
Neither team has been particularly impressive in the final third of the pitch with the Reds averaging just 1.18 goals per game.
Meanwhile, Union have managed just one goal per game so it would be optimistic to expect goals galore here.
With that in mind, William Hill's 10/11 (1.91) quote for fewer than three to be scored is worthy of consideration.
However, simplicity can be rewarded and in-form Union should be backed at 10/11 (1.91) to send Toronto back to Canada with nothing to show for their endeavours.
