Yakubu Mohammed bagged a double to cancel out Kofi Nti Boakye and Seydou Bancey goals to make it 2-2 at the Len Clay Stadium

AshantiGold fought hard to share the spoils with visiting Asante Kotoko at the Len Clay Stadium in a game that ended 2-2.

Kofi Nti Boakye and Seydou Bancey had put the Porcupine Warriors in the lead and it took Yakubu Mohammed to step forward to pull level for the Miners with his double to ensure that their fans leave the stadium with appreciable level of satisfaction.

Kotoko started the game the stronger side and made a number of incursions in the first couple of minutes, but failed to really trouble Isaac Akrong in goal. Isaac Amoako, however, had to be alert almost soon after to prevent a fierce cross into the box from getting to its target but the goalkeeper had nothing to worry about a few minutes later when Louis Agyemang blasted wide from a good position.

Yaw Frimpong then went on a mazy run past a couple of players but failed to hit the target with his effort slicing it just wide off Akrong’s left hand post, the stopper though had to be alert to gather a long range drive which could easily have caught him off guard. Kotoko were at it almost immediately again as Jonathan Quartey had to be alert to cut out Michael Anaba’s low cross but the Miners found themselves behind almost immediately as Kofi Nti Boakye converted with a header from Frimpong’s cross after the resulting corner was played short.

Ashgold seemed to be awakened by the goal as they made an effort to get the ball forward with Yakubu Mohammed wasting a couple of good chances, the second one cannoning back off the upright. Bernard Akorful also struck the crossbar a few minutes later as Ashgold looked to be edging closer to the equaliser. Both sides then had a number of chances which neither could really make something off as the teams went into the recess with a 1-0 score line.

Ashgold continued to grow into the game as the second half got underway but were nearly sucker punched as Boakye miscued his effort from a well placed low drive into the box. Kotoko then had a number of opportunities to get forward and were made to regret not extending their lead when their tails were up as Yakubu pounced on a momentary lapse of concentration from Henry Ohene Brenya to steal the ball in the box and slot it past Amoako to pull Ashgold level.

The lead lasted for less than two minutes, however, as Kotoko went the other way almost immediately and retook the lead through Seidu Bancey who nodded in Adama’s cross after Akrong failed to get a hand to the ball. The game then centered on the middle of the pitch as both teams battled to gain superiority in midfield with neither managing to create a clear goal scoring chance as Kotoko looked as though they had taken their foot off the pedal again but the fans of the Porcupine Warriors were left frustrated as Bancey and Nti Boakye contrived to make a mess of a promising situation with the former choosing to pass when he had an opportunity to shoot while the latter seemed to lose balance upon receiving the ball.

Michael Akuffo then wasted another good chance to score, hitting the ball straight at Akrong from the edge of the box. Amoako was then called upon to make a great save from Yakubu’s fierce drive injuring himself in the process even though the play was called back for an earlier foul by Yakubu. The forward was however jubilating a few minutes later as he slotted home to draw Ashgold level for the second time in the game. Ashgold went for the win in the latter stages of the game but could not add another goal as they drew 2-2 for the second game running.
