Asante Kotoko kicked off their title defence against newly-promoted Amidaus Professionals at the Baba Yara Stadium with a goalless draw game on Sunday.
Amidaus gave the former African champions a run for their money with their strikers making things difficult for the guardsmen of the Porcupine Warriors.
Despite the home support, the Kumasi-based club found it difficult to convert most of the chances they created into meaningful results.
Captain of Amidaus, Yahaya Mohammed was the torn in the flesh of the Fabulous Club, but he wasted the few chances that came their way until he was substituted in the second half of their opening game.
Both teams created a few chances in both halves, but finishing was poor on the parts of their men upfront.
Amidaus have set off well in their debut campaign in the elite division and holding the defending champions at their own fortress is a clear chance they are in for business in the domestic top flight.
The same set up stunned Kotoko in the FA Cup six months ago with a 2-0 win that saw the Porcupine Warriors exiting the Round of 16 of the knockout tournament.
Asante Kotoko's next game is against Ashgold whiles Amidaus meet Liberty Professionals on October 14.
