A dramatic encounter in southern France ended all square, and Goal.com was on hand to judge each performer

    Geoffrey Jourdren

Was not given a great deal to do and was brilliantly caught just a yard off his line when Maxwell clipped in a delicate goal 10 minutes before the break. Made two very sharp saves to deny Menez when the attacker had clear sights of goal.

  • H. Bedimo

    H. Bedimo

Charged forward whenever possible in his usual customary style from left-back, though he was not always used enough by his team-mates. Was given trouble defensively and was caught out of position at times.

  • Daniel Congré

    Daniel Congré

Caught a little square at times when Menez and Lavezzi broke at him. Looked terrific last season at Toulouse but has not recaptured that form with la Paillade, but generally coped well in this clash.

  • Abdelhamid El Kaoutari

    2.00

    Abdelhamid El Kaoutari

Handed a surprising start due to Hilton failing a late fitness test and the suspension of Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa. Was certainly not a particularly weak link in the defensive line, but did not look especially comfortable either, particularly when defending PSG's rapid attacks.

  • Cyril Jeunechamp

    2.50

    Cyril Jeunechamp

Pushed forward regularly down the right-hand side, but the veteran’s delivery was often not of a high enough standard. Withdrawn due to injury a little before half-time after being booked.

  • Younes Belhanda

    0
    1.50

    Younes Belhanda

Operated as his side’s chief playmaker but continues to struggle to find his best level, despite always being available for a pass. Disappointed with his set pieces, with too many of them wasted by being over hit or poorly directed. Was sent off for a daft second yellow card.

  • M. Estrada

    2.50

    M. Estrada

Back in the starting XI after a recent spat with coach Rene Girard and looked his usual confident self. Was always keen to get a shot away on goal but was perhaps a little trigger happy, trying to score when it was not really on.

  • Rémy Cabella
    0
    0
    4.00

    Rémy Cabella

Started the game in vibrant fashion and after a lull in the middle of the first period rose to the fore to become his team’s outstanding player. Struck the levelling goal, which was just reward for an evening in which he repeatedly probed at the visiting rearguard.

  • Jamel Saihi

    2.50

    Jamel Saihi

Uncharacteristically weak in the tackle in the build-up to the opening goal. Broke up play relatively well in the centre of the field and was not afraid to commit tactical fouls. Given his customary booking for a foul on Lavezzi.

  • Gaetan Charbonnier
    0
    0
    3.50

    Gaetan Charbonnier

Posed the PSG all kinds of problems and was sharp to pressure the visiting defence when out of possession. It was his harrying that led to Sakho’s red card. Was left rather isolated thereafter but still offered an occasional spark and gave a good account of himself before being replaced by Herrera.

  • Souleymane Camara
    0
    0
    2.00

    Souleymane Camara

Did not make his presence felt down the right of the field as much as he would have wanted. Posed an aerial threat when he got into the box, but he offered little in terms of creativity or even in terms of powerful running. Taken off after an hour.

    Garry Bocaly

Arrived on the field 12 minutes before the break in the place of the injured Jeunechamp and struggled to contain the PSG forwards when they were allowed to get at him. Not a convincing performance from the former Marseille youth.

  • Anthony Mounier
    0
    0
    2.00

    Anthony Mounier

Given 30 minutes in place of Camara and gave his team additional urgency.

  • Emanuel Herrera
    0
    0
    2.50

    Emanuel Herrera

Played only quarter of an hour at the end of the game and failed to make his mark felt until the final seconds when he had a stinging shot saved.

  • Salvatore Sirigu
    0
    0
    2.50

    Salvatore Sirigu

Commanded his box strongly, as has been his custom all season, yet there was little he could do to deny Cabella, who levelled the match from 18 yards.

  • Thiago Silva
    2
    0
    4.00

    Thiago Silva

Remains the lynchpin of the PSG back four as he offers the kind of calming assurance that comes with his quality. Could not quite snuff out the chance that led to Cabella’s strike for Montpellier, but was a rock for his side throughout.

  • Mamadou Sakho
    0
    1
    0.50

    Mamadou Sakho

Dismissed after just nine minutes of play for a foul on Charbonnier. Should have coped with the situation better, but was played up an alley by Verratti.

  • Maxwell
    1
    0
    4.50

    Maxwell

Not renowned for his attacking prowess since arriving in France, but scored a superb goal 10 minutes before the interval with a delicate chip from just inside the box. Easily dealt with the limited threat posed by Camara.

  • Gregory van der Wiel
    0
    1
    1.50

    Gregory van der Wiel

It has not been an easy transition from Ajax to France, and this was another difficult evening. Booked for a foul on Mounier, who caused him all kinds of trouble in the closing stages.

  • Jérémy Menez
    0
    0
    3.50

    Jérémy Menez

An effervescent threat on the break for the capital side. It was his clever flick that started the move that led to Maxwell’s goal and he was involved in the same move further down the line. Looked to cause danger whenever he was involved.

  • Blaise Matuidi
    0
    1
    2.50

    Blaise Matuidi

Covered an immense amount of ground with his defensive work, which was essential due to the narrow nature of the PSG central three. Was at fault for Montpellier’s goal as he uncharacteristically gave away possession on the edge of the box.

  • Marco Verratti
    0
    1
    2.50

    Marco Verratti

Does not look the composed presence he did in the early weeks of the campaign. Gave the ball away in crucial areas of the field on more than one occasion and must be considered at least partly culpable for his part in Sakho’s red card. Booked for a rash challenge on Belhanda. An ill-tempered performance that was ended when he was replaced by Chantome with less than 55 minutes played.

  • Thiago Motta
    0
    0
    2.00

    Thiago Motta

Returned to the starting XI after a month out with back problems and immediately made his presence felt with a series of strong challenges. Gave a decent account of himself as he sat stubbornly in front of the defence and gave little away in the process. Played 75 minutes before being replaced by Gameiro.

  • Guillaume Hoarau
    0
    0

    Guillaume Hoarau

Withdrawn after 10 minutes to make way for Alex as part of the reshuffle following the Sakho red card.

  • Ezequiel Lavezzi
    0
    0
    3.00

    Ezequiel Lavezzi

Offered a similar kind of threat to Menez, though he was not quite as effective as his France colleague. Still finding his feet in this side, and his link-up play with the ex-Roma man was encouraging.

Substitutions

  • Alex

    2.50

    Alex

Came into the action unexpectedly early due to Sakho’s red card and produced a strong performance in the heart of the defence. The highlight of his night was a terrific block on Cabella with the score poised at 1-1.

  • Clément Chantôme
    0
    0
    2.50

    Clément Chantôme

Did not feature in midweek due to injury, but was given 35 minutes in place of Verratti. Was not able to influence the game in a particularly meaningful manner.

  • Kevin Gameiro
    0
    0
    2.50

    Kevin Gameiro

Was brought on as an attacking change in the final quarter of an hour, and his pace caused problems.
