Player Ratings: Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton

The Eagles defended bravely to earn a point, only their fourth of the season, against a Toffees team lacking attacking inspiration and now without a goal in two games

    Julian Speroni

Did not have too much to do against a misfiring Everton side. Tipped one Mirallas shot around the post, but otherwise it was a relatively quiet afternoon.

  • Joel Ward

    Joel Ward

Has adapted well to the Premier League but this was one of his tougher afternoons. Baines was very bright down the left early on and although the right-back did improve, he was still fortunate on one or two occasions that the England defender's crossing was not up to its usual standard.

  • Danny Gabbidon

Danny Gabbidon Top of the Match

Formed a strong partnership with Delaney against a difficult customer in Lukaku. At the back, it was a much better afternoon than has been usual this season for Palace.

  • Dean Moxey

    Dean Moxey

Tough in the tackle but very limited in possession, sometimes clearing the ball upfield when he had more time to pick a pass. Defensively reliable, though.

  • Damien Delaney

    Damien Delaney

With skipper Paddy McCarthy's return imminent, he boosted his claim for a starting place at centre-back. Ensured Lukaku played only with his back to goal around the Palace box.

  • Yannick Bolasie

    Yannick Bolasie

Very dangerous when he found space to run into - almost Wilfried Zaha-like - but did not get on the ball nearly enough. One astute pass set Thomas through on goal.

  • Kagisho Dikgacoi

Kagisho Dikgacoi Flop of the Match

Twice got in goalscoring positions in the penalty area and twice wasted the opportunity, on the second occasion bizarrely heading the ball backwards. The more advanced central midfield position does not play to his strengths. Replaced at half-time by O'Keefe.

  • Jerome Thomas

    Jerome Thomas

At the centre of all Palace's best play, but missed the best chance of the match when he was put through on goal by Bolasie. One excellent cross found Dikgacoi, who should have scored, and he also forced Howard into a fine save with a dipping shot.

  • Mile Jedinak

    Mile Jedinak

Patrolled the space in front of the defence in commanding fashion, as usual. For all the defensive work he does, it might not hurt to swap him out of the holding role for Dikgacoi in order to get him on the ball more often.

  • Barry Bannan

    Barry Bannan

Drifted in and out of the game, but his use of the ball at times was excellent and he worked hard to press to win it back. One fine first-half pass was not taken advantage of by Dikgacoi.

  • Marouane Chamakh

    Marouane Chamakh

Cannot be faulted for effort, but leading the line of a struggling team is a tough job and he is lacking in confidence. Really should have scored when he met a corner on the edge of the six-yard box.

Substitutions

  • Stuart O'Keefe

    Stuart O'Keefe

Hustled and harried in central midfield but was brought on as more of an attacking option than Dikgacoi, and he did not really get a chance to advance up the pitch.

  • Jason Puncheon

    Jason Puncheon

Replaced Thomas late in the game but Palace were pinned back by that point.

  • Cameron Jerome

    Cameron Jerome

Did not receive too much service after replacing Chamakh as Everton ended the game on top. One erratic header when defending a corner almost gifted Jagielka and Distin a goal.

  • Tim Howard

    Tim Howard

Decisive when he came to punch the ball and did brilliantly to tip Thomas' shot over the crossbar. An assured display.

  • Leighton Baines

    Leighton Baines

Rampaged down the left flank but, after a good start including one pass from which Osman should have scored, the quality of his delivery faded a little. Did not get many chances to put crosses, rather than more precise passes, into the box.

  • Phil Jagielka

    Phil Jagielka

Not the quickest and he was exposed on one or two occasions as Everton pushed on in search of a goal. Generally took care of Chamakh comfortably.

  • Sylvain Distin

    2.50

    Sylvain Distin

Strong in the air and used the ball out of defence well but there were some hairy moments for the Everton back four. Missed a golden opportunity to head in the winner in the second half.

  • Gareth Barry

    Gareth Barry

Used the ball smartly in midfield, often dictating Everton's probes as they got closer to the Palace box. Enjoyed less possession in the second half, however.

  • Leon Osman
    0
    0
    2.00

    Leon Osman

Missed two good chances in the early stages and does not look as comfortable in an advanced role supporting Lukaku as he has done in a deeper central midfield position.

  • Steven Pienaar
    0
    0
    3.00

    Steven Pienaar

Looked closer to his old self after a disappointing performance against Tottenham. Got in between the lines to good effect and exhibited his familiar tight turn. The decisive pass or shot did not come, though.

  • Seamus Coleman
    0
    0
    2.50

    Seamus Coleman

Attacked once or twice from right-back but not as energetic or aggressive as he can be. Had his hands full in dealing with Thomas.

  • Kevin Mirallas
    0
    0
    2.50

    Kevin Mirallas

Tested Speroni with one low shot in the first half and does provide Everton with pace and width, but was not a consistent enough threat. Replaced by Deulofeu shortly after half-time.

  • Romelu Lukaku
    0
    0
    2.00

    Romelu Lukaku

Another difficult outing in which he fulfilled his duties as a target man but did not see much of goal himself. Well-marked by the Palace defenders and is probably better suited to a more counter-attacking style of play.

Substitutions

  • Ross Barkley
    0
    0
    2.00

    Ross Barkley

Played closer to Lukaku after replacing Osman but did not make much of an impact. Palace collapsed deeper late on in order to try to preserve a draw and he could not find much space.

  • Gerard Deulofeu
    1
    0
    3.00

    Gerard Deulofeu

Had one or two bright moments, curling one long-range effort not far wide. Still looks more of a bench option rather than a player ready for a starting spot week in, week out.
