Ins, Outs & Latest: Liverpool - Southampton
Ins: Kolo Toure (Manchester City), Luis Alberto (Sevilla), Iago Aspas (Celta Vigo), Simon Mignolet (Sunderland)
Outs: Danny Wilson (Heart of Midlothian), Jonjo Shelvey (Swansea City), Suso (Almeria: loan), Pepe Reina (Napoli, loan), Jay Spearing (Bolton), Stewart Downing (West Ham), Andy Carroll (West Ham)
Reasons to be optimistic: The summer arrivals at Anfield have bolstered the options Brendan Rodgers has at his disposal, while at the time of writing, the club are still standing firm over the position of Luis Suarez, who looks unlikely to be allowed a move to top-four rivals Arsenal. Younger players such as Andre Wisdom, Martin Kelly and Raheem Sterling should all get further opportunities to establish themselves as first-team regulars.
Reasons to be fearful: If Liverpool go against their message and offload Suarez the pressure will be on Sturridge to deliver a constant supply of goals. The club are also fending off interest from Barcelona for their centre-back Daniel Agger.
Business still to do: Rodgers has admitted his side are still looking to sign at least one more player before the transfer window closes. A left-back to compete with Luis Enrique is an area Liverpool are looking to strengthen, while another wide player would complement the quality the club possess through the middle in Suarez, Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho.
