Kris Commons gathered Hooper's neat pass to open the scoring after 16 minutes before the striker went close by latching onto Anthony Stoke's through-ball and heading a right-wing cross wide from inside the penalty area.
Commons could, and perhaps should, have claimed his hat-trick late on but failed to control another smart pass from the Norwich City target.
