Five to watch: Ligue 1 scout report
2. The goalscorer: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Only PSG's Zlatan Ibrahimovic (25) has scored more goals than Aubameyang (17) in Ligue 1 this season, with the Saint-Etienne forward virtually unplayable in recent weeks. The 23-year-old has netted nine goals in his last nine games, only failing to find the back of the net once since mid-January.
Not just a great goalscorer, Aubameyang is developing a knack for scoring match-winning, decisive goals – Les Verts have not lost a match in which he has scored this term, with his 17 strikes shared across 15 different matches. Those goals have seen Saint-Etienne, unexpectedly, rocket up the table and could yet qualify for the Champions League.
Capable of playing out wide, left or right, the Gabonese striker is exactly the sort of flexible, versatile player that modern managers go goo-goo for. There are similarities between Aubameyang and Loic Remy, who, despite injury and the abjectness of the struggling QPR side he signed for, has made an instant impact in England.
But Aubameyang's blend of genuine speed and precision finishing could quickly cast a large shadow over Remy's four goals in seven games, and he would be a welcome addition to almost any side in the Premier League.
