Five to watch: Eredivisie scout report
3. The star name: Christian Eriksen
Quite apart from the fact that his contract at the Amsterdam ArenA will expire in 14 months' time, he is ready now. Mature and confident, Eriksen has the creativity and movement to be more than just effective in England.
Already capped 34 times for his national team, the Ajax midfielder has stepped up his game in 2012-13 and proved that he can hack it at the very top level with some fine performances in the Champions League, as Manchester City will testify. That he was so undaunted in a group filled with such talent spoke volumes.
Tottenham are known to be interested but they are not the only suitors from England. Ajax director Marc Overmars confirmed in late March that Liverpool scouts had been regular visitors to Amsterdam and confidently posited that Eriksen was their target.
Brendan Rodgers moved to obfuscate the picture but it would make a lot of sense for the Reds to move for the Denmark star. With Steven Gerrard winding down, Eriksen would be a superb long-term option as an attacking midfielder behind the main striker, with the pace to stretch Premier League defences and the class to punish them.
