Five to watch: La Liga scout report
The star name: David Villa
His contract expires at the end of next season and Arsenal are known to be serious admirers. The Gunners tried to sign the 31-year-old in January but were met with resistance from Barca, while Villa's partner had just given birth. But the path to a move will be clearer at the end of the current campaign and a host of clubs will be in the market for Spain's all-time top goalscorer.
Although he was forced to adapt his game to become more of a wide forward upon his arrival at Camp Nou in 2010, he is still capable of playing through the middle and can therefore provide a versatile attacking threat. His ability to take advantage of space from the left would make him ideal for Arsene Wenger's front free. He would also be a great addition for Liverpool, who are of course in the market for reinforcements, particularly out wide.
And although Manchester City are in the market for a big-money central striker, they have been crying out for an intelligent wideman for the last couple of seasons. Villa can make the kind of runs that former Valencia team-mate David Silva looks to pick out, and would certainly add a much-needed new dimension at Etihad Stadium.
