1. Bundesliga
Total spent: €36,850,000 (£31,500,000)
As per usual, it was a relatively quiet transfer window in Germany. The headlines focused on Bayern Munich's announcement that Pep Guardiola would take over the reigns at the Allianz Arena in the summer, while elsewhere, Nuri Sahin sealed a return to Borussia Dortmund after a difficult 18-month spell away from the club at Real Madrid and Liverpool. The biggest spenders were 1899 Hoffenheim, a club facing a surprise battle against relegation this season. The Bundesliga's top sides did not engage in much business, with Schalke signing Michel Bastos and Raffael, while Bayer Leverkusen snapped up the polish talent of Arkadiusz Milik.
Biggest incoming transfers: Ivan Perisic (Borussia Dortmund to Wolfsburg)
Ivan Perisic had said numerous times in recent months that he was not happy at Borussia Dortmund and so Wolfsburg, with new manager Klaus Allofs, took advantage to snap up the Croatian winger for €7.5m (£6.4m) - the Bundesliga's most expensive transfer this winter. Schalke also signed a big-name winger in former Brazil international Michel Bastos from Lyon. Elsewhere, Bayer Leverkusen signed young striker Arkadiusz Milik for €2.6m (£2.2m) from Gornik Zabrze, beating off competition from other big clubs such as Inter Milan and Dortmund, who were also reportedly interested.
Biggest outgoing transfers: Lewis Holtby (Schalke to Tottenham)
Lewis Holtby decided against renewing his contract at Schalke and, amid interest from numerous clubs, the 22-year-old in the end opted to join Tottenham. Despite the original agreement being for next summer, the deal was brough forward to January, with Spurs snapping up the Germany international for €1.75m (£1.5m).
Former Germany international Marvin Compper made the headlines throughout January after allegedly informing Hoffenheim he was no longer willing to remain at the struggling club. As a result, he was sold to Fiorentina, with his deal at the Bundesliga club due to expire in the summer. Finally, Eugen Polanski sealed a switch to Hoffenheim from rivals Mainz in a move worth €3m (£2.6m).
