Cape Verdean centre-back Rolando began his footballing career with Belenenses, making his debut for O Belem at 18-years-old. Blessed with a great knack for reading the game, solid positional sense and the pace to recover, the big defender also has popped up with big goals on occasion and crowned his Belenenses debut with one. He joined FC Porto in 2008 and was an instant success at the Dragao, effectively retiring Porto stalwart Pedro Emanuel.

Having arrived in Portugal as a 15-year-old immigrant, Rolando gained Portuguese nationality in 2006 and has since made seven appearances for the Seleccao. While he is probably more on the periphery of the national side, Rolando is so highly rated among many Portuguese fans that there are increasing calls for him to start alongside club-mate Bruno Alves at the expense of veteran Ricardo Carvalho.
