Born in Vila Real, Simão Pedro Fonseca Sabrosa is another top-class winger to graduate from Sporting's world famous academy. The flying midfielder made his debut at just 17-years-old and crowned his big day with a goal in Sporting's 3-0 win over Gil Vicente. Simao was seen as the heir to Luis Figo's throne, a tag that dogged the early part of his career and scuppered his big money move to Barcelona in 1999.

The winger arrived at Camp Nou with a huge reputation and was quickly handed the burden of filling the void left by the recently departed Figo. Following an unsuccessful spell in Catalonia, he returned to his homeland with Benfica and quickly picked up where he left off. He succeeded in earning a second stint in Spain in 2007 with Atletcio Madrid for a fee believed to be just under €20 million and quickly established himself as a consistent performer at the highest level with Los Colchoneros.

With pace, great feet, and a knack for goals, Simao has been a integral member of the Portuguese national team for the best part of a decade, earning 78 caps and scoring 21 times for the Seleccao.
