Nineteen-year-old Chris Wood is one of New Zealand’s most exciting football prospects, having cut his teeth in England with newly-promoted side West Bromwich Albion.

Upon impressing with the club’s academy and reserve sides, where he proved his scoring prowess on a consistent basis, he was handed a surprise first-team appearance for the Baggies in the Premier League against Portsmouth last year, coming on as second half substitute.

Wood figured in the national team’s 2009 Confederations Cup squad in South Africa and its successful World Cup qualifying campaign of which he saw a goal of a disallowed in the team’s first-leg qualifier in Bahrain

In 2008, Wood was named the Nike Young Men's Player of the Year at the New Zealand Football Awards ceremony, held in Auckland.

The fledging youngster is widely tipped to assume the All White’s scoring responsibilities for the coming years to come.
