The Dutch have been spoilt with world class goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar between the posts for 15 years. Together with Maarten Stekelenburg and Vitesse goalie Piet Velthuizen, Michel Vorm is the future of the Dutch national team in a post Van der Sar-era.

Vorm was a part of the FC Utrecht youth academy, but was loaned out to FC Den Bosch to get some first team experience. After this successful spell at Den Bosch, Vorm succeeded to become first goalkeeper of FC Utrecht in the 2006/2007 season. He impressed the Utrecht crowd with his relaxed, no nonsense style of goalkeeping. Vorm was appreciated by the fanatic Utrecht crowd, who voted him Player of the Year after his first season.

A shoulder and knee injury made Vorm miss a big part of the following season, but his comeback was very good. The goalkeeper earned his first cap with good performances in November 2008. He replaced Henk Timmer in the friendly against Sweden. Vorm is a reliable goalkeeper, who always has a very good score in the clean sheet ranks of the Eredivisie.
