One of England's most talented midfielders, Michael Carrick has had to work hard to convince the Three Lions faithful of his worth to the team. After leaving Tottenham Hotspur for Manchester United for a healthy transfer fee of £18.3 million, expectation was high, but Carrick took a while to settle at Old Trafford.

Now, Carrick is one of Sir Alex Ferguson's main men in the middle of the park and regularly displays his passing ability and has even pressed on and grabbed goals from midfield.

With Capello favouring a five-man midfield and with Wayne Rooney's excellent form as a lone striker for United this season, there could be a spot made just for Carrick in England's starting XI in June.
