Rio Ferdinand
Continuing the trend of England's struggle in defence, Rio Ferdinand, so often lauded as the country's best defender, has not found form easy to come by this season.
A series of injuries has hampered playing time and when he has taken to the field, a string of mistakes has taken the shine of his Golden Boy status. He isn't quite the player he was a couple of years ago as United swept to league and European glory.
But fully fit, Rio is still expected to be one of Capello's first-choice defenders and has now slotted into the role of captain following John Terry being stripped of the armband.

Before the last World Cup in 206 Rio played a series of pranks on his England team-mates for a Punk'd-style TV programme.
