David James has long suffered from a reputation built early on in his career at Liverpool for making mistakes - particularly balls in the air. But since that rough time he has carved out a position as England's best shot-stopper and is one of the first names on Fabio Capello's team sheet.

After spells at West Ham, Aston Villa and Manchester City, James settled in comfortably at Portsmouth where he formed part of a solid defence that won the club the FA Cup in 2008.
